Ten Questions: Introducing Brunch In the Summertime

10 Questions about Brunch in the Summertime!

  1. How did Brunch in the Summertime come to life? In early March of this year, I was living in Columbus, Ohio and it was still super cold. I was craving summer weather so bad! Then I started reflecting on what my favorite part of summer is and honestly, some of my best summer memories have happened while I’m at brunch. Brunch can happen while you’re on vacation, it can be planned as an event, or it could just be a random link up but it is always a good time. So it dawned on me that my type of vibe is brunch in the summertime with a cold drink and a nice breeze.

Around that same time, I was finishing up law school without a clear vision of what was next for me. I was trying to figure out what I was going to do while I was job hunting. So I started to think about how I could use my Journalism degree that I already have and boom, this blog was born.

Also, the acronym for Brunch in the Summertime is B.I.T.S. so if you see B.I.T.S. throughout this blog, that is why!

  2. What is the purpose of B.I.T.S.? Once I thought of the name idea, I started to think about what the purpose of the blog would be and how I really wanted to execute it. Two very important things happen at brunch: (1) you get to look good and (2) you get to eat good! So, the purpose of this blog is to be a platform to highlight those two things. When you come to B.I.T.S., you will find my honest reviews of different brunch spots and hopefully get some outfit inspiration at the same time! Also, I won’t just be giving reviews of the meals I have, I will also be telling you the vibe of the restaurant and how the service was.

  3. What do you hope to accomplish with this blog? Honestly, I hope that people can refer to this blog when they are looking for good brunch spots! Kinda like a mini Yelp lol. I hope that along with reviewing well-known restaurants, I can also use this blog to showcase black owned restaurants, vegan friendly restaurants, and small family owned restaurants. Also if all goes well, I hope to eventually sell B.I.T.S. merchandise and be able to use this platform to give back to the community.

  4. Where are the brunch locations going to be? All over! I make it a point to go to brunch whenever I’m in a new city so the brunch reviews will be coming from a lot of different locations. I am based in the Carolinas so I will start with brunch spots in Charlotte, NC, Greenville, SC, and Atlanta, GA, but not limited to those areas. If you have any suggestions for a place I should try, please DM the B.I.T.S. Instagram page or leave your suggestion in the Contact Us section.

  5. Will there be reviews of vegan/vegetarian options? Yes. I will be reviewing vegan/vegetarian friendly places as well! I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I did stop eating red meat over three years ago. I occasionally toy with the idea of going vegan but I’m not willing to commit so instead, I like to explore vegan foods.

  6. What do I look for in a brunch spot? I love a nice ambiance. A brunch spot with a good view, outdoor patio, or a rooftop is definitely my favorite. Most importantly, I look for reviews of the food. Now along with going to Yelp or Google, you can come here to find reviews too!

  7. What is my brunch style? It depends! Most of the time, I try to go for a chic look with a cute heel and a nice bag, but sometimes I can’t be bothered with heels so I go more casual. A casual vibe for me might be a bodysuit, ripped jeans, and sneakers. Brunch doesn’t always have to be a place to make a fashion statement but if you want to go all out, do it!

  8. Where are my top five places to shop? I am definitely more of an online shopper and especially with the Covid-19 pandemic, I was not shopping in stores at all. Even before the pandemic, I preferred to online shop anyways. Fashion does not have to be super expensive so a lot of my favorite stores are affordable. I love a good discount code! My favs:

SheIn Official (Super affordable. Great place to find accessories and play with your style without breaking the bank.)

Missguided (My favorite place to find graphic tees and basics that I can mix and match.)

Boohoo (This was the first online store I found with a good tall section for women. I’m 5’10 and it can be a struggle sometimes.)

PrettyLittleThing (My go-to place to find matching sets and dresses for all types of occasions.)

Asos (Perfect place to find a lot of different brands all on one site. Two of my fav brands they have are adidas and Levi’s.)

  9. What are your favorite brunch foods? Hands down, my favorite brunch item is Chicken & Waffles. I love the combination of salty and sweet with a little bit of hot sauce. I also like any type of omelet or egg scramble with potatoes on the side. I love a well seasoned avocado toast too. But the best part of brunch is that restaurants usually switch it up so I really order whatever sounds good.

  10. Will blog posts for Brunch in the Summertime only happen in the summertime? No! I know the name may be deceiving but my goal is to post consistently year round. The name, Brunch in the Summertime, is the vibe that I want this blog to exude even in the colder months. I want everyone that clicks on this blog to leave feeling like they can add a new brunch spot to their list no matter what time of year it is.
