Forno Kitchen + Bar: Columbus, OH

Sunday Brunch at Forno Short North

For this week’s brunch, I visited Forno in Columbus, Ohio. Forno is one of my hometown favorites! It is located in the Short North Arts District, the go-to area for food and nightlife in the city. Forno serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM - 3 PM.

My Order:

  • Mimosa (sparkling wine, orange juice)

  • Chicken + Waffles (southern fried chicken, savory waffles, hot sauce aioli, local maple syrup)

  • Garlic Parmesan Fries

  • Spiked Strawberries & Wild Berry Strawberries (seasonal)

Review:

I was so happy to visit my hometown this weekend and of course I had to go to brunch with my best friend. The Short North Arts District is my favorite part of the city because there is so much to do and it continues to grow. There are quite a few great places to eat on High Street, and Forno is one of them.

We had a reservation for Sunday brunch and we were seated immediately. Ohio is still taking Covid-19 precautions so their menu was on a QR code that you could scan on your phone. They also had clear, plastic borders between every table which I really appreciated.

The ambiance of the restaurant is definitely upscale brunch vibes. The tables are marble and the floor to ceiling windows provide lots of natural light. They also have a full bar.

Our waiter was very nice. We started with the spiked strawberries (my favorite) and we were actually given two for free so that we could try their seasonal wild berry flavor! I call them the strawberry shots because they basically fill a strawberry with flavored vodka gel and top it with whipped cream. They are sooo good. We also ordered mimosas.

Surprisingly, I have never order the Chicken + Waffles from Forno so I wanted to give those a try and honestly, I am glad I did. This could be a stretch but I cannot remember ever having better chicken and waffles. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the hot sauce aioli combined with the maple syrup was a perfect combination. On the other hand, I have ordered the Garlic Parmesan Fries many times and they always taste amazing.

Overall, everything was great as I expected! If you get anything on the menu, definitely try the Chicken + Waffles.

B.I.T.S. Rating:

I would give Forno Kitchen + Bar 5 out of 5 stars. I may be a bit biased because it has been one of my favorites for years now, but I promise you will not be disappointed! I would suggest making a reservation though because they do get very busy. If you are ever looking for brunch in the Columbus area, head over to Forno.
