Hickory Tavern: Columbia, SC

Hey foodies! I’m back with another brunch review! 💛

For this brunch review, I will be reviewing and rating Hickory Taverns brunch in Columbia, South Carolina. They have other locations in multiple states throughout the south: Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

I went to their location in the Vista, a very popular dining and entertainment area in Columbia. Hickory Tavern serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays until 2 PM.

My Order:

  • Jumbo Mimosa Carafe (champagne and orange juice)

  • Watermelon Blast (seasonal summer drink: vodka, red bull red edition, fresh watermelon)

  • Chicken Wafflewich (hand-breaded chicken breast lightly fried between two soft Belgian waffles topped with sausage gravy, bacon and maple syrup)

    • Modifications: I ordered the sandwich without bacon and requested medium hot sauce to spice it up!

Review:

I really enjoyed brunch at Hickory Tavern. Hickory Tavern is a sports bar so they have a lot of televisions to play sports games. It would be the perfect place to go when a big game is on.

They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is on two levels, the first floor is covered and the second floor gives rooftop vibes. It wasn’t too crowded for a Saturday and we were able to get seated right away. Our waitress was very nice.

Their brunch menu is small but mighty! They offer five specific options that are available during brunch. Those five options are brunch staples like biscuits and gravy, steak and egg tacos, and their own spin on chicken & waffles in the form of a sandwich called a Chicken Wafflewich. That’s what I ordered!

I also ordered a Jumbo Mimosa Carafe (I did not drink it all by myself lol) and a Watermelon Blast. The watermelon blast was a very refreshing, light summer drink. The mimosa carafe was only $15 so if you are looking for a boozy brunch, Hickory Tavern is a good place to try.

The food came out quickly. The Chicken Wafflewich came with gravy and maple syrup. I also asked for hot sauce on the side. The combination of flavors once I put all the toppings on the sandwich was a 10/10!

I seriously would order it again without hesitation. The chicken was moist and cooked well. The waffle was crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside and it was the perfect level of sweetness.

With Columbia’s limited brunch options, I would definitely recommend Hickory Tavern if you are looking for a fun weekend spot!
